Distracting Players

Do you ever acquire that itch? The itch to bet, to head to the closest gambling house, to discover a superior stakes casino game of Hold em, to sit at a Pontoon table for hours on end. I really like that itch. And I really like to scratch it.

I also love to watch men and women wager. No 2 poker faces seem alike. When I bet I like to think I put on a poker face which is impassable. Except I know I have specific actions. For one, the only time I smoke is when I wager on poker or Pontoon. And then I smoke. But I smoke no matter if I am winning or losing, regardless of whether I’ve a good hand or bad.

I once wagered inside a weekly poker game. The game was generally five card draw. There was a man who bet with us each week who generally wore a hat. When he was dealt a very good hand, subconsciously, he would start touching and playing with his hat. Pointless to say, he by no means won.

The greatest poker player I ever saw was a man who produced much more actions and gestures at a poker table than anybody I had ever met. He was impeccable in the way he dressed. Generally an costly suit and tie, boots shined and nails trimmed. He was fastidious in this manner. And he was generally brushing his pant leg or rubbings his hands or putting his chips in tidy little piles.

I use to analyze him for long periods of time. I would attempt to see if I could notice his tell. Picking fuzz off his vest- did this imply he was bluffing? Arranging his chips in a short pile – did this mean he had a very good hand?

Years later I ran into him in a very bar in Chi town and we had a beverage. I asked him if he have been aware of all those movements he made or if they had been subconscious. He told me that every single single thing he did at a poker table was deliberate. He said that everybody is usually checking out everyone else’s poker face. They are attempting to detect the the tell.

So his method was to give them lots to believe about. His thinking was if they had been thinking about him selecting a piece of lint off his vest and what it meant they certain weren’t thinking about their cards.

His technique was diversion. And it worked for him. Never give up a program that functions for you.
