Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While playing online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found playing net poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
