Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve final game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While betting on web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard about. Gus can be found competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
