Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
