NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
October 26th, 2021 by Noelle

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
