Net Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
August 30th, 2022 by Noelle

Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the final poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While betting on internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world might be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen gambling on web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in big stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
