Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
