NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
March 5th, 2024 by Noelle

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
