Before you Tilt
June 16th, 2025 by Noelle

Ah, the tilt. If a poker player claims never to have looked down the shadow of an upcoming steam – they’re either telling a lie or they have not been wagering long enough. This does not mean obviously that every poker player has been on steam before, a few players have great control and carry their losses as a loss and keep it at that. To be a strong poker player, it’s absolutely crucial to appraise your successes and your losses in a similar manner – with no emotion. You play the game in the same manner you did following a difficult beat as you would after winning a huge hand. Most of the poker masters are not attracted by tilting following a bad defeat as they are very experienced and you really should be to.

You have to understand that you will not win each hand you are in, regardless if you are heavily favored. Hands that frequently make players to go on tilt are hands that you were the favorite or at a minimum believed you were up until you were side swiped and you burned a huge chunk of your stack. Bad beats are bound to happen. Accept that fact right now, I will say it again – if your siblings enjoy cards, if your mother plays cards, if your grandpa enjoys cards – They have all had poor losses sometime. It is an unavoidable experience of competing in Hold’em, or in reality any type of poker.

Since we are assumingly (almost all of us) in the game for one purpose – to earn a profit, it certainly makes sense that we would bet accordingly to maximize our profit potential. Now let’s say you are up one hundred dollars off of a $100 deposit, and you suffer a gigantic hit in a NL game and your stack is down to $120. You’ve burned $80 in a hand where you should have picked up $200two hundred dollars when you decided to go all-in on the flop and had a ten to one edge. And that guy! He sucked you out on the river? – Well stop right there. This is a classic opportunity for a brand-new gambler to start tilting. They just blew too much money on one hand that they really should have won and they’re angry
