Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
